Black table in chart with data relevant to the percentage difference between short and long commercial contracts. Red table with CBGA gold releases.
Remarks: OMO 055 holding up the trough until 057 plus two tons of gold. Bounce in OMO 059 finishing the gladness thanks to more than 31 tons of yellow metal. Saved by the bell and soothed the pain by OMO 064. But after suggesting new promotions, the price is smashed again with two fast gold socks, crochet first and uppercut later. He is knocked out and bites the dust again searching groggy new lows. Feel again another magic trend in red till 28 tons gunshot. Remember that in July markets feared inminent banking collapse in US after IndyMac was seized by FDIC regulators.

Black table in chart with data relevant to the percentage difference between short and long commercial contracts. Red table with CBGA gold releases.
Remarks: OMO operation 043 and more than 3 tons of gold have all together enough fortitude to induce in traders the right direction from top to bottom, as far as OMO 047. Drawing then a perfect support line (in red) to preserve the appearance in this new lesson ‘Gold for Dummies’, thanks to OMOs 041 and 042, of course. Fine ploy, really. Look out the big jump in percent difference from 40,4% to 50,7%, and TAF 045 probably preparing the last skip.

Black table in chart with data relevant to the percentage difference between short and long commercial contracts. Red table with CBGA gold releases.
Remarks: OMO operations 025 and 034 are on top, forestalling stronger rebounds. Are both helped by more operations (026, 027, 028 and 035, 036, 037) plus 22th one tone of gold impeding a different trend?

Black table in chart with data relevant to the percentage difference between short and long commercial contracts. Red table with CBGA gold releases.
Remarks: ECB operation 019 is on top and 021 at the same price with peaks in L-S %, but contrary trend. No conclusive. Is important to emphasise OMO 025 on top turning arround the price and no CBGA release. Also OMO 028 tapping the bounce and fueling a downward trend. That is to say, breakdown 15th without big CBGA release, and 26th with zero tons. Who was the BIG seller? Keep in mind that dollar collapsed from mid February to March 77 to 71, and in March taked place the Bearn Stearns collapse.

Black table in chart with data relevant to the percentage difference between short and long commercial contracts. Red table with CBGA gold releases.
Remarks: ECB operations seems to fuel upward trend in gold, helping to expand short commercials contracts. But no strong evidence to prove it. The only faint one is very skimpy CBGA releases, working to gently shallow quench the tendence.

I start today a graphic research for any relation between European Central Bank (ECB) Open Market Operations (OMO), Central Bank Gold Agreemen (CBGA, and 1, 2 , 3) gold releases and its price market. Looking for any linked relation with movements up or down in gold price, and increases or reductions in commercial short gold contracts as open interest percentage minus long ones.
